Andrew Bogut: 'Warriors will likely rest me for the season'

Il centro sta recuperando dall'infortunio all'anca

NBA

Andrew Bogut says his new NBA team, the Golden State Warriors, will likely rest him for the rest of the season so he can recover from a broken left ankle.

And the former No. 1 draft pick says he still holds out faint hopes of playing for Australia at the London Olympics.

Bogut broke his ankle in a game against the Houston Rockets on Jan. 25. Scans over the next three weeks will determine whether the 27-year-old center can play this season for the Warriors, the team he was traded to this week from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Bogut told Australian Associated Press that regardless of the scan results, "the last thing they'll (the Warriors) want to do is rush me back to play in a couple of games."

"I've got to have scans at the eight-week point after I broke my ankle," Bogut said. "If the scan says we want you in the (moon) boot for another three or four weeks or they don't want me resuming too quick, it will come down to missing the season."

Bogut said if he's healthy, he might consider playing for Australia at the London Olympics in July.

"It's a tough question to answer right now," he said. "To be honest, I haven't given it a whole lot of thought.

"Without talking myself up, I think I'm as professional as they come. I have my own workout and training facility in Melbourne, I'd be rehabbing and training like I would for any other event, and we have enough lead-up games to the Olympics to get ourselves ready."

He said he had experienced mixed emotions since finding out about the trade which sent him and Stephen Jackson to the Warriors for Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown.

"When I first heard the news I was excited," Bogut said. "It's a franchise on the way up, a new city to live in, it's only one flight from Australia rather than two.
