Mens Sana Siena will open the Euroleague season playing in Florence against Galatasaray.
The Euroleague Basketball CEO, Jordi Bertomeu, spoke with Il Corriere Fiorentino about the new location of Mens Sana Siena and about the future of the main European competition per club.
Mens Sana in Florence. Siena has no choice if they want to keep the Euroleague A License. When we all understood that a new arena was not going to be built in Siena, I spoke with the General Manager Ferdinando Minucci. We accepted the Nelson Mandela Forum (7.200 seats) without forcing Siena to move to Bologna or Pesaro, because we are interested in the project of making Siena a team for the entire Tuscany".
European Championship per Club. We are working on that. But our format is very different from the NBA because the Americans have a different idea of sports: we love competition, while in America economic factors have more importance.
New format for Euroleague. We have expanded our Tournament two-three times already. Clubs are asking us to play more games because they increase the quality of the games, the spectators and they have more chance to get new sponsors. From 2015 we will start a new formula that includes even more games.
New Rules. We have introduced new rules from this season while resetting the 24 second shot clock to 14 seconds after an offensive rebound will come into action from next season"
